LEE SWEE KEONG (Artistic Director-Nyoba Kan)
Founded in 1995, Nyoba Kan is Malaysia’s one and only butoh dance group. According to its artistic director, Lee Swee Keong, butoh is therapeutic for the body and soul as it brings together Yoga, Qi Gong and modern dance. In July 2008, Nyoba Kan introduced the first ever Nyoba Butoh Dance Festival to Malaysia’s arts calendar. The festival featured a photo exhibition, an outdoor performance, workshops and the main performance, She Walks In Beauty As The Night, and was well received by both the public and the arts community. Swee Keong has received international acclaim touring Europe. Nyoba Kan performed at The 5th International Butoh Festival Thailand 2009.
